Record Stores

If you think the whole digital-media thing is just a fad, or if you’re just a fan of vintage vinyl, there are still a handful of local, independent stores to serve your interests.

Blue Note Record Shop

156 Central Ave., Albany, 462-0221. Although Blue Note’s on-hand stock is about 75-percent vinyl—the store’s specialty is old 45s—it also stocks cassettes and CDs. The store also does a big mail-order business.

Caribbean Records and Accessories

19 Central Ave., Albany, 426-0056. Carries CDs, vinyl and cassettes, specializing in reggae; also sells beepers, telephones and other items.

Celtic Treasures

456 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 583-9452. In addition to musical instruments, the store carries more than 2,500 Celtic-music titles on CD.

Disc Go Round

2080 Western Ave., Guilderland, 452-0338. Buys and sells new and used CDs, DVDs and video games, including imports.

Last Vestige

173 Quail St., Albany, 432-7736; 437 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 226-0811. Choose from a wide array of rare vinyl records (both new and used), CDs, tapes, and more.

Punk Rock Reptile

340 Central Ave., Albany. Hardcore, metal, and punk-rock CDs, plus clothing and jewelry.

Red’s Underground

13 Broad St., Glens Falls, 798-2040. Unique store specializing in recycling CDs, DVDs and games. Most music genres found here.

River Street Beat Shop

197 River St., Troy, 272-0433. Troy’s only record store featuring new and used vinyl, CDs, cassettes, DVDs and VHS tapes. Also regular, free live music.
