As a member of the Albany Police Departments "Traffic Safety Committee" I've seen the ACCIDENT statistics which prove that red light cameras won't reduce the number of accidents in Albany, the majority of collisions are in parking lots of West Gate Shopping Center and the Hanford's across Central Ave !
Also, NYS DOT imitated it's "SAFE CORRIDOR" program along Route 5 (Central Ave: Albany to Schenectady) and it's study showed that 87% of the fatalities involving pedestrians were MID BLOCK... not at corners with Red Lights !!!
We don't need Red Light Cameras... unless the MAYOR wants to make a quick $$$

PS: I just returned from a trip to Kansas City, Missouri, and they had to return over 8,000 fines collected by their red light cameras for violating a persons Due Process !!! Where will Albany be in a year or two when we also would have to refund ALL the fines collected by red light cameras ?!

Its not so much the person, its the office, the rules, and the way the rules dictate how the city is governed. The mayor writes the budget, the council, without help, makes small alterations to it, and gives an up or down vote on the whole thing with public input based on how much noise can be made against something. Its a bad system and until the party starts talking about reforming this old, broken process, we shouldn't expect any better; whoever sits in the mayors office.
