Glenn Jones

SPRING STREET GALLERY, SATURDAY

Just as Glenn Jones has been called “the best guitarist you never heard of,” Saratoga’s Spring Street Gallery is becoming one of the best places to hear the world’s preeminent “Takoma school” fingerstyle guitarists. A year or so back, James Blackshaw played the converted church, and now it’s Glenn Jones, a disciple and collaborator of American Primitive master John Fahey, who’s toured with other greats like Robbie Basho and the late Jack Rose along the way. The Wanting, released on Thrill Jockey, is Jones’ latest and features a bit of 5-string banjo in addition to 6- and 12-string guitar. He’s also recently supplied production work for the Fahey box set Your Past Comes Back to Haunt You. Guitarist and sarod player William Rees will open the show. (Feb. 9, 8 PM, $6-$10, 110 Spring St., Saratoga Springs, 587-6433)
