Tegan and Sara

by The Staff on February 20, 2013

It feels a bit glib or even redundant that Canadian twin-sister act Tegan and Sara named their new record Heartthrob. You see, the Quinn sisters may just be all things to all people.

Debuting as teenagers with a direct songwriting style that resonated with the emo scene, they’ve spent a decade and a half making inroads into rock, new wave and synth pop, collaborating with everyone from Tiesto to Against Me! (not to mention Kaki King, Lisa Loeb, Carly Rae Jepsen, Dave Guetta. . .), while becoming icons of gay culture and celebrity crushes for pretty much everyone else. Even NOFX have written a song in tribute to Tegan and Sara.

The first single, “Closer,” from the new record is an ’80s-vintage party anthem, sure to karaoke its way into your libido. Holly Miranda will open the tour stop in Clifton Park.

Tegan and Sara will play the Upstate Concert Hall (1208 Route 146, Clifton Park) on Friday (Feb. 22) at 8 PM. Tickets are $25. Call 371-0012 for more info.
