Lindsey Stirling

by The Staff on March 13, 2013

OK, the music industry just officially jumped the shark. Beauty-pageant queen, vlogger, YouTube phenom and America’s Got Talent contestent Lindsey Stirling just scored a No. 1 record on both the Billboard classical and dance/electronic charts. How? By playing violin to dubstep backing tracks.

Her self-titled debut is composed of all-original material, but if you were an early fan of Stirling (circa 2010-11), you might know her from the YouTube video she made covering a medley of Zelda soundtrack tunes, dressed as Link (pointy ears and all), frollicking in the foothills of the Rockies—the video has more than 9 million views. Piers Morgan told her on the show that “You’re not good enough to get away with flying through the air and trying to play the violin at the same time,” putting him in the distinct minority.

Lindsey Stirling will play the Upstate Concert Hall (1208 Route 146, Clifton Park) on Wednesday (March 20) at 8 PM. Tickets are $20. Call 371-0012 for more info.
