Pilobolus are a modern dance troupe who have been around long enough—since 1971, specifically—to be called “venerable.” Yet they remain fresh, searching out new ideas and collaborations. Last year, for example, they were Grammy nominated for their work on OK Go’s video “All Is Not Lost.”
A critic for the Dallas Morning News neatly summed up Pilobolus’ charms in a 2011 review: “Pilobolus packaged a plethora of sophisticated tricks, including dramatic sound effects, super-slow-motion movement and shadow puppetry, and the bravura skills of the troupe’s seven dancers, minimally costumed to show off their taut muscularity, into arty spectacle meant to wow and entertain.”
They’re returning to the Egg on Sunday evening. We weren’t able to track down the program, but you can check out what they’ve been up to at pilobolus.org.
Pilobolus will perform Sunday (April 21) at 7:30 PM at the Egg (Empire State Plaza, Albany). There will be a preperformance talk at 6:45 PM. Tickets are $28. For more info, call the box office at 473-1845.
