This wide-ranging exhibit, which opens this weekend at the Arkell Museum at Canajoharie, charts the evolution of “the pure beauty of a photograph.” Pure Photography: Pictorial and Modern Photographs from the Syracuse University Art Collection showcases important (and stunning) images from both the pictorial and straight photography movements of the 20th century. Photographers featured in the exhibit include Alfred Stieglitz, Adolf Fassbender, Berenice Abbott and Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Pictured is Edward Weston and Marguerite Mather (1923) by Imogen Cunningham.
Pure Photography: Pictorial and Modern Photographs from the Syracuse University Art Collection opens Saturday (April 27) and will remain on view through July 20 at the Arkell Museum (2 Erie Blvd., Canajoharie). For more info, call 673-2314.
