After a decade or so of the biggest publishing phenomenon revolving around teenage wizards, it’s only fair that an adult-oriented trilogy—ahem, sex, ahem, BDSM—should take the pop-literary world by storm. And it was only a matter of time before some wit decided that Fifty Shades of Grey was ripe for parody.
So, we have Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody, a cheeky comic jab not associated with the original novels’ author, and which is being presented Thursday and Friday night at the Egg.
There will be sexy sketches and songs, most inspired by the shenanigans in the first book of the trilogy. One Cleveland-based critic wrote that if you’re looking for Shakespeare, forget it; instead, what “you can expect is plenty of sex and laughs—[and] Spank! didn’t disappoint, with many double entendres.”
Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody will be performed tonight (Thursday, May 2) and tomorrow (Friday, May 3) at 8 PM in the Hart Theatre at the Egg (Empire State Plaza, Albany). If there were any tickets left, they’d be $29.50 and $39.50. But it’s a sellout. For more info, call the box office at 473-1845.
