Schenectady Civic Players will wrap up their 85th season beginning tomorrow (Friday) night with one of Stephen Sondheim’s best-loved musicals, the Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George.
Inspired by Georges Seurat’s pointillist masterpiece A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, Sondheim and book author James Lapine constructed a joyful and bittersweet meditation on art, life, and love, by making the characters in the painting (and Seurat) come alive.
The production is directed by Duncan Morrison, and stars Matthew Moross and Molly McGrath (pictured).
The Schenectady Civic Players production of Sunday in the Park with George opens tomorrow (Friday, May 3) at 8 PM and runs through May 12 at the Schenectady Civic Playhouse (12 S. Church St., Schenectady). Shows are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday and Saturday at 8 PM; and Sunday at 2 PM. Tickets are $18. For more info, call 382-2081; for tickets, call 346-6204.
