While bands like Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, Everclear, the Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon (et al.) attempt to revive ’90s pop nostalgia (and their careers) with one-hit-wonder orgy tours (Under the Sun, Summerland), the muthafunkin New Kids on the Block are doing it all by their lonesome—uh, well, with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men in tow.
Seriously, people?! A boy-band nostalgia tour? This makes zero sense on several fronts, not the least of which being that they’re lumping Boyz II Men, a once-legitimate a cappella group in with the likes of Nick Lachey. Furthermore, why aren’t Bieber and Timberlake headlining this? At least then we’d have a clean little survey of the genre’s history.
Oh, right, because NKOTB actually have a new album: 10.
The New Kids on the Block will play the Times Union Center (51 S. Pearl St., Albany) tonight (Thursday, Aug. 1) at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20 to $92.50. Call 800-745-3000 for more info.
