Sweet Honey in the Rock

by The Staff on October 10, 2013

Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, Friday

The struggle continues. You can hear it in the words and see it in the hand gestures of the six women who will grace the stage Friday evening. Heavily influenced by gospel, Sweet Honey in the Rock have been telling tales of oppression for the past four decades. Members have changed, and yes, they have added on to their a capella ensemble, one musician to beef up harmonies and the other to serve as a sign-language interpreter. The message they portray remains the same, though: Break down barriers and never stop. (Oct. 11, 8 PM, $25-42, 30 2nd Street, Troy, 273-8945)
