EMPAC, Friday

Two master pianists from opposite ends of the musical spectrum take over RPI’s EMPAC on Friday. While studying at the University of Michigan, jazz keyboardist Craig Taborn (left) became a member of saxophonist James Carter’s band, contributing to a series of his albums. After collaborating with a number of other artists, including Roscoe Mitchell and producer Carl Craig, Taborn finally released his first solo album in 2011. Vicky Chow, on the other hand, is well known in the new-music world as a classical and contemporary soloist, chamber musician and ensemble member. The two join forces to bring you a show that will showcase their contrasting solo sets. (Dec. 6, 7:30 PM, $18, 110 8th St., Troy, 276-3921)
