David Dondero

by The Staff on January 9, 2014

The Half Moon, Wednesday

David Dondero doesn’t front. The guy wears a flannel shirt, but not in that way. And he writes songs on the acoustic guitar, but not like that. See, there are lots of singer-songwriters who strive for that meat-and-potatos, voice-of-the-everyman thing. They strive too hard. Meanwhile, Dondero has built his reputation on simplicity and humility as much as songwriting mastery, touring couch to couch and singing to whoever might host and feed him. In the process, he’s been dubbed one of the best living songwriters by NPR, alongside Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. Now this is independent folk music. (Jan. 15, 48 S.
