Is there any love quite as delectable as forbidden love? Probably not, especially when it comes to a cabaret show. Which is why Songs to Amuse: Forbidden Love Edition at Caffe Lena is one romantic temptation not to be resisted. From the theater ballads of Irving Berlin and Stephen Sondheim to music-hall songs by Noel Coward and Flanders & Swann (with a stop along the way by Tom Lehrer), this Valentine’s Day program (Friday, Feb. 14) is a funny, fast-paced tribute to the art of the not-quite love song. The étape à trios performers are singer-actor Byron Nilsson, classical chanteuse Amy Prothro, and pianist extraordinaire Malcolm Kogut. And if you’re feeling the least bit cynical about this hearts-and-flowers holiday, they ardently promise to encourage that attitude.
Songs to Amuse: Forbidden Love Edition will be performed Friday (Feb. 14) at 8 PM at Caffe Lena (47 Phila St., Saratoga Springs). Tickets are $15 ($12 for members, $7.50 for students and kids) and may be reserved online at caffelena.org or by calling (800) 838-3006.
