It’s been a colder than usual spring, but the tulips are blooming in Washington Park and the meteorologists are promising a warm-up just in time for Tulip Fest.
What will be waiting for you? There will be 100,000 blossoming tulip bulbs and a dizzying array of food and craft vendors, a KidZone stage with a wide variety of entertainment, a Green Market featuring sustainable goods, plus two stages of music. On Saturday (May 10), the “518” stage will feature Rebel Darling, the Parlor, Accents and Titanics; the main stage will host Panama Wedding, Sleeper Agent, Rubblebucket and Mike Doughty (subbing for the cancelled-by-illness MS MR). On Sunday (May 11) the local stage will host Kimono Dragons, the Chronicles, North and South Dakotas and the Lucky Jukebox Brigade; the main stage will showcase Nicole Vanessa Ortiz, Caroline Glaser, Graham Tichy and Emerson Hart.
While the main festival is on the weekend, the fun begins tomorrow (Friday) at 11:30 AM with a City Hall carillon concert followed at noon by a mayoral proclamation and the traditional street scrubbing by the Tulip Queen finalists at State and Lodge streets.
The 66th Annual Tulip Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday (May 10-11) in Washington Park (Albany) from 11 AM to 6 PM. Admission is free. For more info, visit albanyevents.org.
