A Nod to the Past

The new show at the Carrie Haddad Gallery, A Nod to the Past, will feature paintings by Mark Beard, Bruce Murphy and James O’Shea, and photographs by David Halliday.

The “nod” takes different forms with each artist. Beard has based his recent paintings on glass-plate negatives taken by his great-great grandfather. Halliday likes to “transform classic elements into something more contemporary.” O’Shea is inspired by experiences he’s had in the timeless Hudson River area near his studio. Murphy uses classic materials to create his modern abstracts.

Pictured is Beard’s On the Banks of the Green River.

A Nod to the Past opens today (Thursday, July 17) and will remain on view through Aug. 17 at the Carrie Haddad Gallery (622 Warren St., Hudson). There will be an opening reception Saturday (July 19) from 6 to 8 PM. For more info, visit carriehaddadgallery.com or call 828-1915.
