A MAN OF MANY HATS Local musician Michael Eck (pictured) can add another title to his already impressive list. The local father-musician-writer-artist is now also a radio-show host. Eck was selected as the new host of WAMC’s Performance Place: The Music of Our Time, a radio show featuring local, regional and national musicians and their new music. The show is billed on the WAMC Web site as “where to go to hear the best in new music, without even leaving the house. Jazz, rock, folk, urban, world and avant garde—we bring the nightclub, the coffeehouse and the concert hall to you.” Longtime Performance Place host Paul Elisha will still appear as a guest on the show on select mornings to feature classical and theatrical music. The next guest on the show will be Capital Region folk songstress Rosanne Raneri; she’ll be the featured artist tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 16). Performance Place is on WAMC weekdays at 11:23 AM.

LONG TIME COMING Albany punk band Kitty Little have a new CD called Know No Shame. The band previously released two 7-inch records, an EP and a split LP (with the Kiss-Ups), but this full-length disc is theirs and theirs alone. Know No Shame is co-released by Art of the Underground Records and Matto’s Peterwalkee Record label. The band describe the new disc as “transitioning between describing a dirty punk house’s ‘broken records and dirty magazines’ and double vocal breakdowns of ‘sha-na-na-na-na ooh ooh ooh ooh’ without ever losing a drop of credibility.” You can order the new disc at artoftheunder, and you can check out Kitty Little at or kittylittle

THE LOSS OF A MUSICIAN Lead guitarist Michael Gregoire, in local groups Gunther Weezul Band (who recently signed to local label Overit Records) and the Brawler Band, died early this month (Feb. 6) at his home in Troy. Gregoire, who was born in 1977, released The Demon Lure with Gunther Weezul on Overit in December. A post on the Overit Record Web site says, “There are no words that could possibly express the sorrow. Rest in Peace, Mike. You are greatly missed, and will never be forgotten.”
